Have you ever thought about how many oceanson the planet Earth, because we live with you on land, despite the fact that it occupies a much smaller area, compared with the mainland? Let's see how many oceans are on the earth, what they are, and how they differ from each other.

The ocean is the largest water body, of whichand consists of a world ocean. The land area is about 29 percent. All the rest falls on the world ocean. Continents, islands divide the world ocean into oceans. Up to 1953 there were 5 oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Indian and Southern Oceans. However, later the allocation of the Southern Ocean was abandoned. In the present definition of 1953, the Southern Ocean is not present as such.

  • So, let's start with the largest ocean - Pacific. Its area is 162.2 million square kilometers, and the water volume is 710 million cubic kilometers. It is located between the continents of Australia and Eurasia, South, North America and Antarctica. In this ocean there is the deepest water point of the Earth - the Mariana Trench. Its depth is 11 022 meters.
  • Atlantic Ocean. The second largest ocean, after the Pacific. Its area is 14.7 million kV. km. It extends from the north to the south. Located between North, South America, Africa and Eurasia from the west.
  • Indian Ocean. It is located between Australia, Africa and Eurasia. This is the third largest ocean, it is 73.5 million kV. km.
  • Arctic. The smallest in the area is the ocean. It is located between North America and Eurasia. The area is 14.75 million kV. km. This is the shallowest of all, its greatest depth is 5,527 m, and the average is 1,255 m.

All these oceans have long been for someoneriddles, for someone obstacles to the discovery, and for someone just an opportunity for navigation. Wherever you are, you should definitely look at the ocean at least once, because it's worth it.
