How do I reset BIOS settings?

Some problems that arise in the workcomputer, you can decide to reset the BIOS to factory settings. There are several ways to reset BIOS settings on your computer or laptop. On some models of computers even already began to make special buttons for zeroing BIOS, which are placed on the motherboard. However, if you do not have such a button, you can reset the settings in one of the ways below.

Safe way

First, consider the safest wayreset user BIOS settings. To do this, you will need to log into the BIOS while booting your computer. After the computer has turned on and before the operating system installed on it boots, you need to press the Delete, F2 or F10 key several times. To find out which button you need to press, carefully read what is written at the bottom of the screen while loading the BIOS or consult the technical documentation of the device.

In different versions of BIOS, the settings window may look different. But the principle is the same everywhere.

  • If you have installed one of the older versions of the BIOS, find the Load Optimized Defaults tab, Load BIOS Setup Defaults, or Load Fail-Safe Defaults and confirm the selected action.
  • If your computer is relatively new, thenversion of BIOS you will use more modern. In this case, you will need to find the Exit tab, and in it the Load Setup Defaults line. Next you will need to confirm the selected action and save the changes before exiting.

Reset with battery

To use this method, youit will be necessary to completely disconnect the device and remove the protective cover of the laptop or computer to get to the motherboard. Carefully study the fee. Somewhere on it there should be a small round battery from which the motherboard receives power. All you need to do is carefully remove the battery from the socket and after a few minutes return it to its original location. In some cases, this method does not work. Therefore, we recommend that you immediately go to the third, most effective way.

Zeroing BIOS with jumper

The jumper is a small jumper thatswitches the contacts on the motherboard in such a way that there is an automatic reset of its settings to the factory settings. Use this method if you can not start the computer, because when you boot, a black screen appears before you or if you forget the password that you set to enter BIOS settings (for security reasons, some users set a password to enter the BIOS settings so that outsiders can not change them, but over time this password is lost or forgotten).

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Remove the protection cover of the system unit.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the power supply.
  4. Wait 10-15 seconds.
  5. Find a jumper that will be located near the contact with the words ClrCMOS, CCMOS, ClRTC or CRTC.
  6. Move it from position 1-2 to position 2-3 for 5-10 seconds and return to the initial position.

In many laptops, there is no such jumper. Therefore, you will need to find two contacts signed by JCMOS, and close them with a screwdriver.
