Where is Semyonov?

The homeland of the Khokhloma painting is the small town of Semenov. Now there are several centers associated with this folk craft.

Where is Semyonov? The town of Semenov is located in the north-eastern part of the Nizhny Novgorod region and stands on the Sanokhta River. Also near it lies the Trans-Siberian Railway and there is a railway communication station. The distance to the capital of the region is not more than 70 km.

Historically, the city emerged as a settlementOld Believers in the XVII century, and at first it was a village, which by the end of the XVIII century had reached the status of a district town of the Nizhny Novgorod province. Currently, many religious buildings are reminiscent of the Old Believers' time and have survived to this day. Many buildings of the city store merchant secrets in themselves.
