What is a defect?

The term "defect" is derived from the Latin worddefectys, which in translation means "deficiency", "flaw" or "flaw". Due to the common wide designation it is used in many spheres and branches. Let us consider in more detail what a defect is and where this word can be used.

In the production of a defect can denotemanufacturing defect. For example, a defect in thick-plate steel, a defect in the processing of wood. In any production, costs incurred due to defects are accounted for.

In the human anatomy, the word "defect" is usedquite often, for example, speech defect, atrial septal defect. In dentistry there are also various defects, for example, wedge-shaped. There is a defect of 25-hydroxylase, which,probably, is a hereditary disease and, moreover, very rare. It is a rachitis-like disease, which is treated with the help of vitamin D and calcium.

This term is also used in physics. Thus, a quantum defect is isolated; defect mass, crystal defect (Schottky defect, Frenkel defect, Stone-Wales defect).

In sociology you can find the term "social defect". It denotes a decrease in a person's ability to function in the main areas of life: in the family, work, relationships with friends.
