Hippology is a scientific discipline. This word is formed in Russian from the ancient Greek roots: ἵππος "horse" and λόγος "word". What does hippology study? What is the subject of her research?

Hippology studies:

  • Anatomy, the physiology of horses. Scientists systematize the material about the features of the anatomical and physiological structure of horses of various breeds, identify those rocks that are most applicable in various spheres of human life: in agricultural work, for fun at horse races (the word "racecourse" also originated from this Greek root) and so on.
  • Scientists are engaged in the creation of breeds of various types of horses, their reproduction.
  • It is the scientists of the hippology who can give valuable recommendations on the maintenance, feeding of horses, care for them, and the treatment of diseases.
  • A separate section of the science of hippology is dedicated to the cultivation of young animals. After all, it depends on the correct content of the horse in the future.
  • Finally, science examines the conditions and rules for testing horses for endurance, strength and other indicators, which also contributes to the removal of the most hard breeds.

An interesting fact is that even in ancient manuscriptsthe peoples of many countries had information on caring for horses. In Russia, until the 30-ies. In the 20th century, hippology as a discipline was taught in cavalry and artillery schools.

Today hippology is one of the main subjects in agricultural and veterinary universities.
