The subject is Mom. Mom is a subject who commits an action, that is, he is the main actor. In this case, the subject is expressed by the noun "mother" and answers the question: "Who?".

  • "Who said that today there will be bad weather?".

"Who" in this case will be a subject, which is expressed by a questionnaire pronoun, answers the question: "Who?".

  • "Eight pencils are in the box."

"Eight pencils" will be a subject, which is expressed by a numeral and a noun, answering the question: "What?".

What questions does the subject answer, which is expressed by an indefinite form of the verb? This is the question: "What?". Such use of the subject is less common.

  • "To smoke - to harm health".

"Smoking" is a subject that is expressed by an indefinite form of the verb, the predicate here is expressed in the same form - "to harm." In another way, this idea sounds like this: smoking is bad for your health.
