Virtually all housewives do not like to defrost andwash the refrigerators. From this unpleasant duty only the owners of modern refrigerators equipped with automatic defrosting system are spared. But for owners of old models of refrigerators, the question of how to defrost the refrigerator is not idle. Moreover, the correctness of this procedure largely depends on the duration of the refrigerator.

How to defrost the refrigerator correctly

  1. Remove all stored food from the refrigerator. Perishable foods are added to a bucket or pan and put in a basin of cold water.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator from the mains. Leave open the doors of the refrigerator and freezer.
  3. In the freezer, place a rag to soak the water. Near the door of the refrigerator, put a rag.
  4. Never try to clean the walls of the freezer from the build-up of frost with the help of sharp objects!
  5. After the frost layer has completely melted, wipe the sides of the freezer with a clean cloth.
  6. Wipe the walls of the freezer with a cotton swab dipped in glycerin. This will reduce the rate of buildup of the snow layer.

How often to defrost the refrigerator

There is no single rule how oftendefrost and wash the refrigerator. It is believed that the refrigerator requires defrosting when a sufficiently thick layer of frost and ice is formed in the freezer compartment, which complicates the operation and reduces the cooling capacity of your refrigerator.

How to defrost the refrigerator quickly

Using some improvised means (hot-water bottle, fan) to unfreeze the refrigerator can be very, very quickly.

In the freezer, place the heating pad, filled with warm water. If you do not have a heating pad, then you can use enamel bowls. Warm water will raise the temperature inside the freezer and the defrosting process will go much faster.

By directing the flow of warm air into the freezer with a fan, it is also possible to significantly reduce the defrost time of the refrigerator.

But if you have time, it is best to let the refrigerator to defrost in a "natural" way, since a sharp temperature drop can lead to its breakage.

Now you know how to unfreeze the refrigerator. As you can see, this is a rather long process. You can avoid it by buying a modern model of the refrigerator, which will be defrosted automatically, without requiring your participation. Only once or twice a year you will need to remove all the products from it, wash it and, if necessary, disinfect the inside of the freezer and refrigerator.
