Remote inclusion of computers - useful insome cases option. However, in order to use it at the right time, you need to make a preliminary setting. In this article, I'll show you how to configure the computer and remotely enable it through the local network and the Internet.
Computer Requirements
The remote computer must satisfy three parameters for configuring remote access:
- Motherboard with AVX power;
- BIOS with Wake-On-LAN support;
- A network card with WOL support.
If your PC meets the above requirements, you can proceed with the configuration.
BIOS Setup
- We go in the BIOS, find the section Power Management Setup or Advanced (depends on the type of BIOS).
- Activate the Wake-On-LAN function by following the path: Resume by LAN / Wake Up On LAN / WOL From Soft-Off / Power Up on PCI (the names of the items may be slightly different).
- Go to the power saving mode section of the motherboard Suspend Mode and activate the Power on Suspend mode.
- Save the settings and exit the BIOS.
After configuration, inspect the network card: if it has a green or orange light on it with the computer turned off, it means that the setting is correct.
Configuring the Network Card
To set the mode of the network card, you need to go into its settings, find an item with the name of the type Wake on Magic Packet, Wake on Pattern, Wake on Lan, etc. and activate it.
Enable through the local network
- Download the program to send a special package that will activate the wake-up process of the remote PC.
- Install the program. Attention! You need to install it on the PC from which you want to activate.
- Open the program, insert the MAC-address of the network card into the special field and press the "Wake up" button.
- All! It is done!
Enabling via the Internet
- Download and install the program to send a special package that will activate the wake-up process of the remote PC.
- Open the program, insert the MAC-address of the network card and IP-address in the special field, press the "Wake up" button.
- Done!
Dangerous?
It is worthwhile to understand that the remote procedureturning on the computer is not entirely safe, especially if you are using it to remotely turn on Wi-Fi, because an attacker who knows or simply guesses the network password can also easily turn on your PC and access the files.
