A webcam is typically used for video communication ina variety of instant messengers supporting this function - Skype, ICQ, QIP and others. However, in Windows 8 it is also possible to record video or take photos using a webcam via a special pre-installed application. In this article, we'll show you how to turn on the camera in Windows 8 with it.

Launch the Camera application in Windows 8

By default, the Camera application is directlyon the initial screen - to open it, just click on the tile with the camera image. If there is no such icon on the initial screen, start typing the keyword "camera" (without the quotes) - and then you will see the application in the search results. Click on it to turn on the webcam in Windows 8. If you have a tablet, then to trigger a search, swipe your finger along the right side of the screen and select "Search", and then proceed in the same way.

You can find and open the Camera application from theDesktop - move the mouse cursor (or your finger if you have a tablet) along the right side of the screen and select "Search" in the panel that appears. Enter the keyword "camera" (again, without the quotes) and click on the application in the search results.

You can also start the Camera application withscreen lock. To do this, swipe down on it (on the tablet) or click and drag the cursor down. However, it may be that you have disabled the webcam from the lock screen - in that case, unlock the computer, swipe your finger or cursor along the right side of the screen and click the "Options" button, and then click "Change computer settings". In the appeared window select the item "Computer and devices", find on the page the item "Open the camera while holding down on the lock screen" and move the slider to the "On" position. Done!
