True, the folding curtains of Arab origin, and the French only gave the name. Even in the Middle Ages, the Arab sheikhs hid their harem behind curtains of wooden plates that allowed concubines to see everything that was happening outside, and to remain unnoticed by themselves.

Such curtains, in particular, were widely used in the harems of African countries controlled by France (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia). Hence the name went.

How to make blinds with your own hands

One of the most modern and fashionableModifications of the blinds are currently Roman blinds. It is simultaneously similar to horizontal blinds and French curtains. From horizontal blinds, a continuous fabric of cloth is broken into slats, and from French curtains is the straightness of the lines.

What you need

In choosing a fabric you are limited only by the limitsown imagination. Inserts are made from racks. Their length should not be wider than the curtain itself. As inserts can be aluminum or plastic pipes of small diameter, as well as wooden slats.

Small rings can be both metal, and plastic diameter of 15 cm. Braces can be made from fishing hooks. As a weighting agent you will serve a metal or wooden rod, the length of which should be equal to the width of the curtain, and it should be sewn into its bottom.

The cornice can be made from a bar. In length, it should not be more than 2 meters, and a diameter within 3-4 cm. For the cord, any material is suitable. In addition, you will need several helical loops, fixing the hook and screws with dowels.

Instruction:

  • Cut a piece of fabric with a small margin onthe diameter of the window opening. Factory finish is suitable for the bottom of the curtains. To do this, lay flat cloth on the flat surface with the back side up. All wrinkles are ironed with an iron. The marking for tape sewing is done by straight lines.
  • Edges of vertical edges are adjusted andwe are smoothing. What kind of blinds to choose (in our case, to do) in size? Stitch should be, retreating from the edge of 1.5 cm. Next in size, sew the tape, and then the ring. After this, the prepared bar is covered with a curtain fabric with the help of small nails or a stapler. Do not forget to hide the outer seam under the ends of the fabric. To the upper part of the curtain, velcro is sewn on. The lower part should be stitched in 2 rows with the expectation that a weighting strip will be inserted between these lines.
  • If the curtains hang on a simple cornicethe upper edge of it must be treated in the same way as the lower one. The first stitch is made at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. Between the seams, a bar is inserted, and the curtain is attached to the cornice. But before that, you must firmly sew the rings. Between the braid and the curtain is inserted a tube (or rake). All this is aligned with the edge.
  • The curtain is hung on the ledge and leveled again. The cord is threaded along the upper rings and pierces them at the end through one ring. Another 3 cords stretch through the rings and are also pulled out through the ring.
  • We lower the curtain and cut off the excess ends of the cords, not forgetting to make a 0.5 m stock, and bind the cords to the knot. At the end we attach a hook to the window frame to fix the cords.
