Man is a consequence of a long evolution andThe moment when man appeared on the Earth, preceded by billions of years of evolution of life. Life began 3 milliards of years ago. About 200 million years ago, during the domination of dinosaurs, the first mammals appeared. By the end of the Cretaceous period (approximately 75 million years ago), the first primitive primates appeared. 6-7 million years ago, a branch of anthropoid apes of hominids separated from primates, which became the ancestors of man.

The last non-human ancestor of man becameAustralopithecus, who lived 4-3 million years ago, who already confidently moved on two legs and had more developed forelimbs. However, his brain volume was small.

The main criterion by which scientists separateman from monkey, is the volume of the brain. Conditionally, the transition line is 600 cu. Therefore, the time when the first person appeared, is considered 2.4 - 1.5 million years ago, when Homo habilis (a skillful man) appeared. He already had a fairly large brain (670 cm3) and he was able to produce primitive tools.

1.5 million years ago he was succeeded by Homo erectus (a straight man). His brain was 900 cm3, in later individuals that lived 700-500 thousand years ago - up to 1100 cm3. He walked straight, but had a low arch of the skull. He was able to use fire and possessed more sophisticated tools.

The first representatives of Homo sapiens (humanreasonable) appeared in the interval from 400 thousand to 250 thousand years ago. However, only 70 thousand years ago Homo sapiens became as it is now - with a brain volume of about 1300 cm3. Since then, people have not changed much. And it is this time that can be considered a time when a modern man appeared.
