Disputes about who invented the bicycle, are up toso far. People have long thought of the invention of such a vehicle, which would be driven by the muscular power of man. Even in the works of the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, you can see a sketch of an image reminiscent of a modern bicycle.

It is generally accepted that the bicycle was invented in1808 in Paris. It was two wheels and a wooden crossbar, but without pedals and steering. To go on such a bike, you had to push your feet off the ground.

In 1813, Carl von Dreis, a forest ranger from Germany, made the front wheel of such a "bike manageable". A simple worker Dalzel invented the lever transmission to the bicycle on the front wheel axle. Such levers had to be moved alternately by hands, so that the bicycle was traveling. Then Dalzel replaced these levers with pedals for the feet, as the hands did not cope with such work at the proper level.
