The Katana is a long two-handed slightly curvedThe sword invented in Japan. In the article we will tell you how to make a katana yourself. In this case, it will be a real katana from hardened steel, not just paper and wooden hand-made articles.

Tools and materials

The first stage of katana manufacturing begins withcollecting the necessary materials and tools. We will need a hammer, an anvil, a smelter, a horn and various polishing and grinding tools for the final processing of the product. Of the materials you need to stock up with ferruginous sand (it is desirable to find a good black sand, if not from Japan itself, then at least of decent quality), as well as charcoal, sandstone powder, clay, water and rice straw. If you have everything you need, you can start making katana.

Steel smelting

First, we light charcoal and immerse it inthe melting of black sand. The melting point of sand should be at least 1500 degrees. We need to smelt about 4 kilograms of steel. Now we divide the steel into high-carbon steel and melkouglerodisty steel (gray-black color). At the bottom of the furnace we place large and small pieces of charcoal and ignite it, and then put high-carbon steel there. Next, grind the charcoal and place it evenly on the bottom of the furnace along with rice straw. After that, we put high-carbon steel (one layer) on top and cover it with charcoal from above. Quickly swing the furs until the steel does not remain in the furnace.

Forging and hardening of the product

Now we get the steel and start from forging piecesflat sheets. The thickness of the sheets should not exceed 5 mm. On the steel billet with the handle, we put pieces of high-carbon steel, turn the paper over and apply clay. Next, we put the steel in the bugle, cover it with charcoal and heat it until the white color appears (about 30-40 minutes). Then we do this: get the resulting piece of steel, hit it with a hammer several times and then red-hot. Repeat this procedure should be at least 5 times. After that, we take low-carbon steel, postponed in advance, we cut out a block from it, turn it off and then roll again - we do it about 10 times.

Finally, we proceed to the preparation of the blade. To do this, split the bar and forge a rectangular plate. Now perpendicular to the length we stretch the plate, giving the blade the necessary shape. We process the edge of the blade with a file until the desired quality is obtained. It remains to make a pen for our katana. To do this, you can use a pair of bars, which can then be wrapped around the skin and cotton cord. That's all - our katana is ready.

Katana made of wood and paper

A few words on how to make a treekatana. There is nothing complicated. For wooden katana, we need a wooden blank, which you just need to process with appropriate tools: a jig saw, a chisel, a hammer and files. Drill out the desired shape, and then sand it. Of course, such work requires perseverance and patience, but efforts to make a katana from a tree will be much less than for making a combat katana. Before sawing a workpiece, it is desirable to mark it with special marking tools to get exactly the shape that you want. And, finally, how to make a katana from paper? To make a katana from a thick paper is quite simple: you need to mark out its contours and then just cut them out.
