More and more often, commercial companies are askingpass their future employees test on the polygraph before the device to work. Since in ordinary life people rarely encounter such a procedure, it may seem frightening to them. We will tell you how to go through the polygraph, what you need to remember and what you need to know about this process.

How it works?

A polygraph is a device that capturesvarious life indicators, changing under the influence of emotions. This can be breathing, blood pressure, heart beat, muscle contraction, etc. In fact, calling a polygraph a lie detector is not correct, since the device is not able to register its manifestation, it only notifies the examiner about your emotional outbursts.

Recommendations for the passage of polygraphs

Since the procedure is really not pleasant enough, the psychologists have prepared a series of instructions on how to pass the polygraph productively and painlessly.

  1. Be sure to get enough sleep before the procedure. A healthy sleep the day before will help you avoid excessive stress.
  2. Before the test, do not take any medication oralcohol. Various kinds of medicines or even a "pile for soothing" can seriously affect the reliability of the results. If this does not enter into your plans, then do not take risks!
  3. Give your consent to the test. Nobody has the right to force you to go through a polygraph. This is only your voluntary decision. Your unwillingness to go through the "lie detector" can not be the reason for refusing to hire you (only if you do not encounter commercial secrets).
  4. Specify the range of questions that will be asked. This will help you feel more relaxed during the procedure. Knowing in advance what you will be asked about, you can be sure that no one will climb into your personal or intimate life.
  5. Calm down and honestly answer the questions of a specialist. Then the result will be reliable, and you will have less cause for stress.

What does the law on polygraph say?

It is very important to understand that no one canforce you to undergo this procedure. The federal law defines a group of persons for whom a test for a "lie detector" is mandatory (but they can also refuse it): basically, this is due to the admission to work in bodies or with state secrets. In all other cases, to pass or not a polygraph is only your voluntary decision.

To check on a polygraph are not allowed:

  • persons under the age of 16;
  • persons in a state of alcoholic or narcotic intoxication;
  • pregnant women in the second half of pregnancy;
  • persons in a state of mental or physical exhaustion, as well as having any kind of mental disorder;
  • Persons having deviations in the physical reactions that are being investigated.

If you still agreed to the check, and youfor some reason it is necessary to mislead a specialist, then you can read about how this can be done in our article: How to deceive a polygraph.
