It is known that the human eye beginsform on the 18th day of embryonic development. The eyeball is formed already by the seventh month, and to birth, the visual receptors already feel the light. So the moment when the children begin to see, comes before birth.

However, the vision of a newborn is far from perfect and very different from that seen by an adult.

  • The first three weeks the newborn sees only blurred spots of light.
  • At the fourth week of life, the child is able to distinguish silhouettes and follow the view of moving objects at a distance of about 30 cm.
  • In the seventh week the child can distinguish between flat and voluminous, and convex and concave objects differ at ten weeks of age.
  • A three-month-old child sees almost as an adult and is able to distinguish faces, and only in the fifth month a person begins to distinguish the basic colors.
