Everyone knows that in the periodic tableMendeleyev there is a huge number of elements. Learn the properties of each under the power of a few. Often crammed terms and not necessary - you can always find the information you need. Next we will consider what indium is and what its properties are.

India is an element of the main subgroupthe third group of the fifth period of the periodical system of DI Mendeleyev. Its atomic number is 49, and is denoted by the symbol In - abbreviated from the Latin term Indium.

It is obtained from waste, intermediate products in the production of zinc, as well as from tin and lead (though, at least part).

India is a light metal with malleability andfusibility, because it is very soft. In nature it has a silvery white color, like, for example, zinc. For some chemical properties, it is similar to aluminum and gallium. India was not found in the composition of vital compounds.

Like any metal, indium is widely used as an auxiliary substance:

  • India is part of the blue gold.
  • Indium orthophosphate is used as an additive to dental cements.
  • It is a material for photocells.
  • Widely used in the production of liquid crystal displays.
  • Indium compounds are used as luminescent substances.
