What is disinfection?
To explain what disinfection is, you can brieflyin a word - disinfection. However, it should be clarified that it is only one of several types of disinfection. Disinfection is aimed at eliminating infectious pathogens and various types of toxins that have settled on material objects. Her company is degassing (neutralization of toxic gases), deratization (destruction of rodents), disinsection (that is, fighting harmful insects) and decontamination (elimination of radioactive contamination). However, it is not enough to know what disinfection is, it would be nice to understand its types and methods of application.
Types of disinfection by purpose
- Prophylactic: It includes ordinary cleaning with hygiene. It is aimed at reducing the probability of getting an infection. An example of preventive disinfection can be regular disinfection of public places (read about this in the material What is added to the pool water).
- Ongoing. It is characterized by a greater degree of sterilization. It is carried out in medical institutions or in the place where the patient is kept. As a special case, you can indicate the actions taken in ear diseases, as described in the article How to cure otitis media.
- The final one. When the patient achieves recovery, treatment is carried out to destroy the remaining bacilli.
Methods of disinfection
To combat the spread of infection used in a variety of ways:
- Mechanical: removal of contaminated objects and materials.
- Physical: ultraviolet, boiling, gamma radiation.
- Chemical (main): use of disinfectants and antiseptics.
- Combined: a combination of several.
- Biological: the destruction of some bacteria by others.
