How to grow a crystal from sugar?
To do something extraordinary at homevery simple for both children and adults; from our article you will learn how to grow a crystal from sugar. Note that growing the crystal yourself is a very interesting activity based on chemical processes.
How to grow a crystal quickly
The most popular substances from which crystals can be made are sugar, salt and copper sulfate. We will use sugar. In order to quickly grow a crystal, you will need:
- sugar;
- glass;
- thin thread or hair;
- An elongated stick (from the land, for example) or a long pencil, which can be placed on the neck of the glass.
Well, now the process itself.
- The first step is to make sugarsolution. To do this, we need to boil water and add sugar, then pour everything into a glass and mix it thoroughly. Sugar will dissolve while stirring, and add it until it gives a deposit at the bottom of the glass.
- To make the basis of the future crystal, topencil (center), tie a string or hair, and already on the thread, fix the largest crystal of sugar. This crystal will serve as the starting point to which subsequent crystals attach. Then put the pencil on the glass (across the neck), and the thread should be lowered into the solution. Do this carefully so that the crystal does not stick to the wall of the glass. Some people do this: they wait for the beginning of crystallization in a glass (on the walls), and then they separate the born crystal and tie it to the string.
- The next step: we wait for crystallization to begin. This will take a while, because you have to wait until the water from the glass evaporates (until the crystal starts to nucleate).
- In the end, you need to repeat everythingfirst: make a sugar solution, only this time with a strong concentration, and then put into solution your grown-up crystal. You can do this step as many times as you want, to get a crystal of the desired height and shape.
