What color is the sun?

For most people, the question is what colorthe sun sounds meaningless. They will offer to just look at the sky and make sure that the sun is yellow. However, not everything is as simple as it seems. The nearest star to us radiates light throughout the visible range - from red to purple. The human brain combines the emitted colors, while the final color is perceived as yellow. Technically, mixing all the colors of the visible spectrum gives a white color. It is easy to verify this by substituting a sheet of white paper under the sunlight. The paper will look exactly white, not yellow.

However, that's not all. Back in 1881, with the help of physical instruments, the American astronomer Langley proved that the maximum of solar radiation falls on the blue-green part of the spectrum. If you look at what color the sun shines in the open space - the color of the star will be bright blue. From the Earth, the sun looks like a white and yellow ball because of the distortion in the atmosphere.
