Yaroslav the Wise - why wise?

The times of Kievan Rus are a unique periodhistory, rich in majestic personalities and interesting events that occurred not only in the state, but also outside it (in foreign policy activities). There are many questions about the time, the answers to which are still of interest to our contemporaries. For example, this is a question of why Yaroslav the Wise was called wise.

In order to understand this issue,you need to make a short digression into the story. The reign of Prince Yaroslav was at the beginning of a new century, and the throne went to the internecine struggle with the brothers. Yaroslav received a one-man rule as a reward, as well as a scruffy land and poor people, frightened by constant squabbles. During the reign of Rus, Yaroslav not only collected and reunited all lands, but also built a majestic power from a cultural point of view. No wonder the reign of Yaroslav in history was called "The Golden Age" of Kievan Rus, and the figure of Prince Yaroslav is considered the ideal manager of the times of the existence of Rus.

For the right to receive the hand and heart of the prince's daughters, many rulers of huge and prosperous European countries fought, and sons took as their wives daughters of successful managers of huge states.

Christianity

Another fact of why Yaroslav was nicknamedwise, is that he continued the work of his father Vladimir - further spreading Christianity through the territory of his state. In the time of his reign, the process of Christianization of people officially ended, and wonderful temples and monasteries were built. An example is Sofia Kievskaya - a temple that still pleases the eye of Kyivans and visitors of the city.

During the reign of Prince Yaroslav the city of Kiev was also surrounded by defensive murom, and the entrance to the capital of Russia was crowned with the Golden Gate, which have survived to the present day.

Training

Prince Yaroslav was able to read (unlike hisrelatives) and tried as much as possible to raise the level of education of the population in his state. He opened schools for children and adults, and hired scribes and translators to create a huge library.

Code of laws

Also the first who created a collection of laws inKievan Rus, was exactly Prince Yaroslav. "Ruska Pravda" consisted of the basic rules and laws on which citizens of Kievan Rus should have lived. Also, this code of law provided for various types of punishment in case of violation of the prescribed rules.

Despite all the merits, the nickname Wise is notalways belonged to Prince Yaroslav. He was also called Lame (the prince had a bone broken) and the Old. But why contemporaries called Yaroslav the Wise, it is not surprising, since this prince wisely governed the state and in a fairly short time elevated Kievan Rus to unprecedented heights.
