Why are the days of the week so called?

Let's first find out why the weekis called a week. Very long ago, before the adoption of Christianity, in Russia this word was called Sunday day, which, by the way, was the first day in the "modern" week. There was this name from "not doing", that is, this day was intended for recreation. And now let's look at why the days of the week are so called.

• Monday. The day that goes "after the week", that is, after Sunday.
• Tuesday. Named after the order, the second after Monday.
• Wednesday. From the word "middle", "heart". Note that the medium will be really "in the middle" only if it is counted from Sunday, that is, from the beginning of the week to the old mode.
• Thursday. Again, named after the order principle, - the fourth.
• Friday. The name is formed from the number "five", but it must also be said that before the adoption of Christianity in Russia, the goddess Friday was worshiped, so Friday is called exactly that, and not, for example, Friday.
• Saturday. A word with a long history, Saturday from the Greek "sabbaton", which was formed from the Hebrew "sabbath", meaning the seventh day of abstinence from work. "Shabbat" from the Jewish word for word, rest, rest.
• Sunday. From "resurrection", came to replace the pagan "week" after the adoption of Christianity. On this day, according to legend, Jesus is risen.
