How do I remove the oil filter?
Watch the video
Often during an oil change in a carthe first plan suddenly comes up with the question of how to remove the old oil filter. It would seem that nothing is complicated in this matter - the filter should only be unscrewed and removed. But everything happens so simply in theory, but in practice it sometimes turns out that the filter is tightened so tightly that it can not be unscrewed by hand. In this situation, you can solve the sudden problem in two ways - drive the car to the service station and change the oil there or still try to unscrew the filter yourself.
How to unscrew the oil filter
There are several ways to extract the oil filter, let's talk about all in order.
Method one - the most affordable and cheap
As already mentioned above, you first needtry to unscrew the oil filter by hand through a rag. It's easier to tear the filter off the ground on an even warmer engine: after the engine has cooled down, it will be much harder. If the filter refuses to turn, for greater grip, you can replace the rag with a piece of sandpaper. In the event that this did not help, go to the following methods.
The second method is the most effective, but quite expensive
It is easy to unscrew even seemingly "tight"attached "filter can be used with a special device, which you must first buy in a car dealer. Such special pullers are of two types - chain and crab. If you decided to spend your money on the purchase of such a device, buy a better chain puller, it is more powerful, reliable and suitable for any kind of filters, so most SRT oil filters are twisted with chain keys
The third method is barbaric, but effective
You still do not need an old filter anyway,so it can be damaged. Sideways, pierce the filter through a powerful screwdriver and, acting as a collar, tear it off and turn the filter on the filter.
Method four - using a self-made detachable device
Such a removable device can be constructed fromold (but still whole) generator belt. It is best for these purposes to use a belt from the classic model of "Zhiguli". Fold the belt ring in half and you will have half loops on both sides. Pull one of them to the other and lightly tighten. As a result of this manipulation, you will have a double self-tightening loop. Fit it on the filter and pull with all your might to free the half loops on yourself. The more you drag, the stronger the loop around the filter will shrink. Continue pulling it sideways, and when it finally tightens, the filter will start to turn.
