If you have left the engine from the old washingmachine, it should not be thrown away. This electric appliance will serve you more than one year. The main thing is to find him an application. For example, from it you can make a good grinding plant for sharpening knives, scissors and axes. However, very important in this matter is the question of how to connect the engine of the washing machine to an alternating current network with a voltage of 220 volts?

It should immediately be noted that this enginehas several purely structural features that make it possible to do without additional electrical circuits and details. For example, there is no need to install a starting winding and a starting capacitor.

Here it is important to connect the wires correctly, which differ from each other in color:

Two white wires. They are installed only in order to measure the speed of the engine. You do not need to use them for connection.
Red wire. It is connected to the first winding of the stator.
Brown goes to the second winding.
The green wire and the gray are connected to the motor brushes.

So, four wires will be used. What and what to connect?

Connecting a new engine

Two wires will be connected to the AC network: one that goes to the winding (it can be red or brown), the second one is connected to brushes (green or gray). For example, connect red and green.
Two others remain vacant, they must necessarily be connected by a bridge from the same wire of the same cross section.
Now check how the engine works. If its speed is not in the direction that you need, you need to change the connection of brushes. That is, connect the electricity supply wire to the gray wire, and connect the green and brown wires.

This is how the engine of a new model is connected to the engine. But there are also very old electric motors. Their connection scheme is different from the one described above:

First, you need to determine the two wires of the winding output. To do this, you will need a special device - a tester or a multimeter.
Connect one probe instrument to one of the wires, and another probe check the remaining wires. As soon as the tester's arrow shows the connection, this is the same wires that will form the pair. So the other two wires are a pair of another winding.
Now it is necessary to measure the resistance of the two windings. The largest figure indicates that this winding is a starting winding.
Connect wires in pairs from different windings, they are connected to a current source.
On one of the wires of the starting windingthe switch is installed. When the engine starts, it turns on, and then turns off. In this case, the starting winding gives a push to the rotor, and then it turns off, the working winding begins to act.
