Can a sister be godmother?
Orthodox Christians baptize infants. Baptism is not without the name of the baptized parents, who are chosen by the parents of the moral and orthodox upbringing of their children. The godparents should be mature minds and understand that they are the second after the parents responsible for the baptized. When choosing godparents for their child, parents choose those who could be trusted by their child. The sister of one of the parents (aunt of the child) canbe selected in this capacity. But in choosing it is worth paying attention to the Orthodox upbringing and maturity of the mind, since the godparents are those who are ready to take full responsibility for the child, if something happens to the parents.
Can there be a child's godfather (native, cousin, summary, etc.), who are going to be baptized? Yes maybe. But the conditions in this case are the same as those described above. It is necessary to understand the responsibility that you are entrusting, and to know whether the sister will be able to cope.
The prohibitions in choosing the godparents are as follows:
- You can not choose the godparents of those who profess a religion other than Orthodoxy, as well as atheists.
- A husband and wife can not be the godchild of one child.
- When choosing only one godmother for a child, he must be of the same sex as the child.
In all other respects, you can proceed on the basis of your reasonable arguments.
