To configure automatic start of programsAt the start of Windows there are special tools, but in fact many applications for downloading with the operating system simply add their shortcuts to a special folder.

About where in Windows is "Startup", read in our article.

How to find the Startup folder

The specific location of the Startup folder in Windows can vary depending on the version of the operating system.

For example, in Windows XP it is located at:

  • C: Documents and Settings your_name_user_name. Main Menu Programs Auto Backup.

And in Windows 7 it has already moved to the folder:

  • C: UsersYour_usernameAppDataMicrosoftWindowsMain menu ProgramsAuto download.

However, in versions prior to Windows 8, you can find the "Startup" in the "Start" menu, the "All Programs> Startup" section. But in the new operating system this menu is not there, so with the search it's harder.

The easiest option is to get into this folder -press the [Windows (with logo)] + [R] keys and enter "shell: startup" without quotes in the appeared "Run" window, and then click "OK". Then Explorer itself opens immediately on the folder "Startup".

You can add application shortcuts to a folderor, conversely, remove from here the programs that you want to remove from the startup. We advise you to read also the article How to disable startups, where this and other ways of canceling automatic launch of applications are described at system startup.
