The benefits of garlic can not be argued - eachknows how great it is, especially in winter, during the period of frequent colds. However, not everyone knows that with improper storage this plant can wither, or worse, lose its useful properties. How and where to store garlic correctly so that it does not happen?

Ways of storing garlic

After harvesting (when it passes, read inarticle When to clean garlic) the heads of garlic and onions are stored in dark rooms - pantries, cabinets - in the form of braided braids. The braids are interwoven from the false stems cleared from the leaves, and also from the added long filaments or ropes. Ropes are added so that the braid does not accidentally splinter.

Such braids can be suspended in a closet or pantry. However, in order to preserve garlic in the winter, it is better to put them in boxes, bags of dense canvas or in the old manner into stockings. Periodically, the heads need to be sorted, to remove the spoiled ones - since they can transmit their "diseases" to entire heads.

With a small crop of garlic it can be stored infridge in a cleaned form. To do this, take a sterilized jar and fill it with vegetable oil (sunflower, olive or other). Then clean the lobules from the husk and put it tightly in the jar. Thus, you will always have fresh, purified garlic. With this method of storage, its shelf life is 4-5 months. The oil that remains in the can after garlic can be used as a refill for other dishes - it acquires a pleasant aroma.

A place to store garlic

As already mentioned above, garlic is stored indark rooms. Also the room must be cool and dry. Do not place heating or water supply pipes nearby. With a small amount of garlic, you can use a vegetable box in the refrigerator.
