Crocuses are usually referred to mountain flowers. They have gentle colors of petals and unusual saffron color stigmas. It is from them that they receive the most expensive seasoning in the world - saffron.

In this article we will tell you when to plant crocuses. Specifically, let's consider what the landing time depends on.

Crocus planting time

Crocuses blossom in the spring, and they should be planted inlate August or early September. However, there are autumn species of crocuses: these flowers should be planted in the middle of summer in order to get a magnificent flowerbed in autumn. There are also so-called crocus-snowdrops, which begin to blossom in early spring.

For crocuses, you do not often need to dig up bulbs. It is enough to do this every five years.

How best to plant crocuses

Crocus should be planted in such a way thatBulbs fell into the soil near each other. Thus, the flowers can be located close, because the tubers are small. In addition, a dense group of flowers will look more impressive and produce a pleasant impression. The optimal distance is 3 centimeters. A dense planting also has another plus, namely the possibility of creating a clearing. In such a clearing it will be possible later to plant annuals.

The depth of planting depends on the size of the corms. If the tuber is small, then the depth of planting should not be more than 5 cm, a large tuber is buried in the ground at a distance of up to 10 centimeters deep.

Crocuses are unpretentious in care. As already mentioned, only once in five years is it worth digging and thinning. In good conditions, namely, with a well drained area, with constant access to sunlight, each corms give several flowers. Digging crocuses should be in the summer after yellowing of their leaves.
