How to make a boat?

Have a real boat for fishing and recreationon the water can anyone who is at least somehow familiar with carpentry. Paraphrasing the classic, the boat is "not a luxury, but a means of transportation". Let's try to make a boat with our own hands made of wood and plywood.

How to make a boat

This wooden boat is popularly calledVolzhanka. Its dimensions: up to five meters in length, width - over a meter, depth - half a meter. It is built of a wooden frame, trimmed with birch plywood. It is worth noting, multi-ply plywood is widely used in the construction of small vessels. It has:

• good strength in terms of mechanics,
• comparative homogeneity,
• sufficiently low price.

Materials

1. First, choose the plywood (which will be in ourquality of the skin). It should be sheet, in order to reduce the number of hull seams. It is necessary to take birch plywood (three-layered) with resin impregnation - we follow that without knots. Its thickness is up to five millimeters. It is enough three sheets in the size of one and a half on one and a half meter.
2. Three boards of pine, 6.5 meters long and thickapproximately 15 mm. Two planks with a thickness of about 25 mm and a length of 6.5 meters, for the keel and falshkills, one board 25 mm thick and 2 meters long for the stern oar, a board about 40 mm thick and 6.5 meters long for the frames, two boards 55 mm thick and a length of 2 meters for the stems and oars.
3. 9-10 m of light fabric for coveringbody, about a kilogram of lime (slaked), wood resin - 6-7 kg, natural linseed oil - 4-5 kg, oil paint - 2-3 kg, nails, bolts, fastenings, oars.

Instruction for manufacturing

1. For the construction of a boat, first of all you need a slipway from a long board, which is strengthened on posts.
2. You should start by cutting out the frames. Draw them on a sheet of plywood (nine parallel lines and one - perpendicular to them - vertical). Templates are made of cardboard, then transferred to a board (thickness - 40 mm), along the fibers. We saw out the details.
3. The stem is made of curved wood. Kiel sawed from a straight-layer board. We plan and trim the side boards so that they are the same in width and thickness.
4. Go to the collection of the frame. Put the keel on the workbench. We fasten on one side akhtershtiven, on the other - forsted (by means of nails). We adjust the structure, making sure that there are no distortions. Attach the sideboards. We lay the joints of the parts with a cloth that is impregnated in the resin.
5. Gathering the frame, turn it with its keel up. We trim the boat with plywood sheets, smoothly bending them. To better bend and not crack, plywood can be treated with steam. Extra pieces of plywood are cut. Before fixing, we impregnate the plywood with resin. Then, after we install the casing, fix the plywood on the frames and on top of it - the beads.
6. Now it will remain to produce decorative decoration and painting the vessel, cut the oars, insert the oarlocks.

As you can see, with all the details, nothing difficult is to make a boat. You just have to follow the instructions and work on a pre-prepared drawing.
