Previously, every peasant farm was consideredinferior, if it did not have a cow, because the cow in the house is milk, sour cream and cottage cheese on the table every day. No wonder the peasants affectionately called their cows "wet nurse". Cows in Russian villages were rarely bred for meat, they were mainly kept for milk, and the welfare of the peasant family largely depended on its quantity. This indicator has not lost its relevance in our days. Agree that it is simply unreasonable to keep a cow that gives little milk, because the cost of feeding it is very high. How many liters of milk does a good cow give?

What determines the value of milk

The amount of milk that the cow gives depends on so many factors. The amount of milk is significantly influenced by:

  • the breed of the cow and its heredity;
  • age and weight of the animal;
  • duration of lactation period;
  • conditions of detention;
  • quality of feed and care;
  • calving season;
  • observance of the rules of milking.

On how good the conditions of maintenance, care and feeding, depends also on how many years the cow will be milked.

Average milk yield and record milk yields

In principle, it is considered good that the cow, which after the fifth calving gives at least 17 liters of milk per day, although there is no uniform norm in this matter.

The average daily milk yield,received from a single cow, may differ significantly. So, if you look at the official data on milk yields by regions of Russia in 2015, it turns out that the most abundant cows live on farms in the Leningrad region, on average they give almost 22 liters of milk per day, and the "stingiest" in this plan are drillings live in the Republic of Tuva, their average daily nada does not hold up to five liters.

The greatest yields are the cows of Holsteinbreeds, it is the representatives of this breed that belong to almost all records, and in particular the record for the biggest lifelong milking. The champion in this indicator is the Californian cow of Holstein breed, from which for the entire period of milking (and she lived on the farm for almost 20 years), 211212 kg of milk were received! Its owners calculated that on average for all these years their cow gave 38 liters of milk per day.
For a long time, since 1981, the undisputedthe record holder in terms of milk yields was a Cuban cow named Ubre Blanka, which in Spanish means White Hides. That year, she gave almost 27, 7 tons of milk, with the highest quality milk, the fat content of which reached 3.8%! Ubre Blanke also owns a record for the daily milking (and not beaten to the present day) - on one of the days of 1981 it was fed with 111 liters of milk.

The current absolute record holder for annual milking is the Julian's cow from the United States. From this cow of the Holstein breed in 2004 for the lactation period, 30805 kg of milk were milked.

But our champions to world records still grow and grow. Our national record belongs to a cow of black and motley breed called Rossiyanka, it makes 19106 kg of milk for one lactation.
