Pig - cloven-hoofed omnivores. The family includes several species of wild pigs and a domestic variety of this animal. The article talks about what wild and domestic pigs actually eat.

Wild Pigs

Wild representatives of this family live in nature, so they eat everything they can find:

  • insects;
  • small animals;
  • birds and chicks;
  • fish, river invertebrates.

Wild pigs also feed on plant foods: fruits, berries, roots, seeds, nuts; seaweed. They are very fond of forest mushrooms. All this they find in the forests and in the desert fields. In search of food, they can come close to the settlements of people and obtain food in the garden plots.

Among wild and domestic pigs there are such,who eat meat. In history, there have been cases when pigs ate people. Therefore, being in an open field or a forest, it is necessary to be very careful not to meet a family of pigs along the way (especially a young mother with pigs: the females on a walk with young offspring are very aggressive).

Domesticated pigs

Domestic pigs eat what the host will prepare for them. The farms of domestic pigs are mainly fed:

  • bran;
  • food waste;
  • vegetables;
  • fruit;
  • weed grass from the garden (nettles, burdocks, clover, grass).

You should be careful with weeds, among which poisonous herbs can be found. Also, do not add beetroots, carrots and radishes to the pig's diet.

Do pigs eat meat?

Domestic pigs, like their wild relatives, eatmeat. No one specially prepares it for him, but among the scraps of the table are pieces of meat. There are also cases when domestic pigs ate children who were going to the pen. Feeding pigs is a stable expression in a criminal environment. Widespread was received after the release of the movie "Big Jackpot", although this practice of getting rid of corpses and people practiced and before the Italian mafia.

Pigs in the zoo

Many visited the zoo and saw there ordinary and decorative pigs. But not many people thought how to feed them.

In the zoo animals are fed special food,but while visiting pigs, you can also feed specially prepared food that is sold at the entrance. The set consists of vegetables: beets, carrots, potatoes.

Workers of the zoo are not advised to bring food for animals with them, as this can lead to the appearance in animals of various diseases and digestive disorders.
