More and more recently in the news we hear the French word "mistral", but we do not always understand what it means. Therefore, let us consider in more detail what a mistral is.
What does the word "mistral"
Mistral is the French word. In its original meaning - it's a cold north-west wind that blows to the Mediterranean coast of France in the spring from Sevenne. This wind every year complicates the life of the workers of Provence agriculture, and in particular the Rhone valley. Quite often, the gusts of the mistral are so strong that they pull out the trees with a root. Mistral is formed at the junction of the Atlantic and North Sea cyclones.
In addition, Mistral is called Frenchportable anti-aircraft missile system with an infrared passive head of homing. The main goal of this complex is the destruction of low-flying helicopters and enemy aircraft. Mistral was first adopted by the French army in 1987. At the moment, Mistral is being supplied to armament in 25 countries of the world.
Recently, the news saysa universal amphibious assault ship "Mistral". It is the construction of these ships for the Russian army currently being conducted in France. The main feature of Mistral is its ability to perform 4 military tasks at once:
- landing on land motorized parts;
- reception and maintenance of combat helicopters;
- to be a military hospital;
- to be the center of command.
