Iron is the most important chemical element in the periodic table; metal, which is used in a variety of industries. They extract it from iron ore, which lies in the bowels of the earth.
How to get iron: ways
There are several ways to extract iron ore. The choice of this or that method will depend on the location of the deposits, the depth of the ore and some other factors.
Iron is mined both in an open and closed way:
- When choosing the first method, it is necessary to providethe delivery of all necessary equipment directly to the field itself. Here, with its help, the quarry will be built. Depending on the width of the ore, the quarry may be of different diameters and up to 500 meters in depth. This method of mining iron ore is suitable if the mineral is not deep.
- More common is still closeda way of extraction of iron ore. In the course of it, deep wells-mines are digging up to 1000 m deep, in the sides from which branching (corridors) - drifts. Special equipment is lowered in them, by means of which ore is withdrawn from the earth and rises to the surface. Compared with the open, the closed method of mining iron ore is much more dangerous and expensive.
After the extraction of ore from the bowels of the earth, it is loaded onto special hoisting machines that deliver ore to the processing enterprises.
Processing of iron ore
Iron ore is a rock, consisting ofwhich has iron. To further direct iron into the industry, it must be extracted from the breed. For this, iron itself melts out of stone pieces of rock, and this is done at very high temperatures (up to 1400-1500 degrees).
Usually the mined rock consists of iron, coaland impurities. It is loaded into blast furnaces and heated, and the coal itself maintains a high temperature, and the iron at the same time acquires a liquid consistency, after which it is poured into various forms. The slag is then separated, and the iron itself remains clean.
