What is the density of the battery?
To check the level and density of the electrolyte,it is necessary to start the plugs of the filling holes. Keep in mind that the plugs themselves in some models of the battery are hidden under the protective plate. In this case, experts do not advise twisting the plugs with a screwdriver - it will damage the plastic and make it harder to untwist later.
It is better to use for this procedure a five-kopeck coin - it fits both the width and the thickness of the special groove in the cork.
Determine the level of electrolyte
This is done by a special glass tube. It is lowered into the battery, until it rests against the plate, more precisely, in its upper part. Then the tube is clamped with a finger, and taking it out, they look at what level there is liquid. If there is no such tube, a piece of clean paper can replace it. We fold it in the form of a stick, lower it into a container with electrolyte, it impregnates the paper, and then we determine the level from the print. The norm is called the level of electrolyte above the plate by 10-15 mm in each "bank". If it is below normal, add distilled water - it evaporates from the electrolyte as a result of its work, and the acid remains. The electrolyte can not be refilled in this case, as this will lead to an excess of acid, and the active layer of the battery plate will fall asleep, disabling the battery.
What is the density in the battery?
Charged is a battery whose density is 1.28 - 1.30 g / cm³.
But keep in mind that if you have added to itdistilled water, the density is measured only two hours after this refilling: the water with the electrolyte must be mixed. Be careful when checking: in the electrolyte is sulfuric acid. Therefore, if its droplets hit the machine parts or open areas of the body, immediately rinse them with water, in which baking soda is diluted - it neutralizes the acid.
Measurement of density
The density of the battery is measured by a hydrometer. Using a pear located at the end of the device, a liquid is collected in the flask. The insertion of the hydrometer, where the marks are located, will then float to a certain level. Its coincidence with the mark on the inset will show the density of the electrolyte.
Now you know what should be the density of the battery.
