Antifreezes are special fluids, designed to cool the engine, the freezing of which occurs at a very low temperature. For convenience of the consumer antifreezes have a different coloring - red, blue, yellow, green. The liquid of a certain chemical composition has its own color. For example, the basis of red antifreeze is acid, and green and blue - silicates (salts). Therefore, the question arises: can antifreeze be mixed?

The answer to this question is different in each individualthe case. It all depends on what kind of coolant you are going to mix. Mixing fluids from different manufacturers is highly not advisable, since their component composition may not be compatible. Each manufacturer, as a rule, uses its own additives, improving the properties of antifreeze.

Some use as inorganic additivescompounds - amine, phosphate and boronitrite inhibitors. Foreign manufacturers use chemical compounds of a new type in additives. When they interact with each other, the anticorrosive property of the whole mixture may deteriorate, which will lead to early wear of all parts of the system.

Import antifreezes have a higher compatibility among themselves, compared to domestic ones. But this does not mean that they can be thoughtlessly confused.

Can I mix different antifreezes

Mistaken and such an opinion that you can interferecooling liquids having the same color. This assertion arose on the assertion that a certain chemical composition of the liquid corresponds to a certain color. But it is not always the case.

Some manufacturers inside their ownLine of proposal can use the relationship of color and composition, while others may not adhere. You can add, for example, a red antifreeze to red, and then scold yourself for recklessness. But you can add a blue liquid to your red liquid, but it is completely identical in chemical composition. And this happens in practice.

So what do you do if you have a lower antifreeze level in the radiator?

Simply add distilled water. But it should be remembered that if the life of the antifreeze is equal to five years, then adding water, you reduce it for one year. That is, a complete replacement of the coolant will have to be made in 4 years.
