The Western Wall is perhaps one of the main shrines forJews and the main attraction of Israel. It is located in Jerusalem and represents the western part of the wall of the Second Jerusalem Temple, which was destroyed by Roman soldiers even before our era. The temple was the greatest shrine of Judaism and the wall - the only thing left of it.

The length of this wall is about 57 meters, and its facade adjoins a large area on which they pray. The maximum height of the crying wall is 32 meters.

There is a legend that the Creator swore that this wall will never be destroyed. According to the beliefs of the Jews, near this wall there is always a divine presence.

The name "The Wailing Wall" is a translation from Arabic "wall of lamentations". The Jews themselves call their shrine Kotel Maaravi, which means "western wall".

The Western Wall is one of the main places of pilgrimage for Jews and Muslims. Here come to pray from all over the world, for, according to the beliefs, at the wall the Creator hears us.

For over 300 years there has been a traditionplace prayer notes in the crevices of the wall. Now such notes are written not only by believers, but also by tourists. In the year between the stones, the walls are invested about a million notes. They contain citations, requests, gratitude. How to write a note in the Wailing Wall? Notes can be written in any language, on any paper. The number of words and the form of address can also be chosen any. It is important to mention your name in the text of the note. Letters are sent and mailed, and then they are neatly put in niches inside the wall.

Prayer notes can not be thrown away. Twice a year they are taken from the wall of lamentation and buried with honor at the Jewish cemetery. It is strictly forbidden to read someone else's note embedded in the wall of crying.
