How do I clean the cartridge?

If your printer does not print well (on a piece of paperthere are blanks and white bars) and you have already used the print head cleaning function that is available in each printer, but this did not help to eliminate the above defects, perhaps the cartridge is just out of ink or the problem lies in the clogged nozzles of the print head.

First you need to refill the cartridge. If this procedure does not bring the desired result, then the cartridge will have to be cleaned.

How to clean a Canon ink cartridge or HP ink cartridge

If the inkjet printer is not used for a while, the ink in it may dry up, so most often cleaning the cartridge may be necessary after a long period of printer downtime.

First of all, you need to make sure that the cartridgereally withered - to do this, attach the nozzles of the cartridge to a paper napkin and see if an inkprint has appeared on it. If there is no print or it is barely noticeable, then the cartridge is really withered and it needs to be cleaned.

To clean the cartridge you will need:

  • medical rubber gloves;
  • means for washing glasses "Mr. Muscle", "Master shine" (or other liquid cleaner for cleaning glass, containing in its composition isopropyl alcohol and ethylene glycol);
  • paper napkins;
  • cotton cloth;
  • a disposable syringe.

Operating procedure

  1. Cover the work area with a clean, unnecessary cloth and wear gloves. Place the cartridge on the table with the nozzles up.
  2. Type a little cleaning fluid in the syringe (without needles) or dropper into the pipette and drip onto the nozzle.
  3. Wait ten minutes, blot the liquid from the nozzles and the pad with a paper towel, then wipe them with a clean cloth.
  4. Turn the toner cartridge to the working position,attach a new napkin to the nozzles and check that you have succeeded. If a clear ink print appears on the napkin, then the cartridge has been cleaned, if there is still no print, you need to continue cleaning.
  5. To do this, take a small flat container - the lid from the can or something similar - pour a little cleaning fluid into it (the height of its layer should be within 3 mm).
  6. Place the cartridge in the container with the nozzles down and leave it soaked in the cleaning liquid for two to three hours.
  7. At the end of this time, remove the cartridge from the cleaning liquid, wipe the nozzles and check its operation again as described previously.
  8. If the cartridge has not been cleaned this time,go to more decisive actions and try to squeeze out the dried ink from the nozzles. For this, take a disposable syringe, put a needle on it, cut the needle half by one.
  9. From soft rubber or silicone, cut a small plug-cap, in diameter suitable for the diameter of the air intake opening, which is on the top side of the cartridge.
  10. Put this seal on the needle, pull the plunger of the syringe up to the stop, insert the needle into the air intake (the seal should firmly seal the hole).
  11. Smoothly squeeze the piston and inject airinside the cartridge. Overpressure will squeeze out thickened ink from the nozzles and the cartridge will be cleaned. Note: Some HP cartridges have several air holes; In such cartridges, all the holes except one should be plugged with rubber cork.
  12. When the ink starts to leave the nozzles freely, the cartridge needs to be wiped dry very carefully with paper napkins, and only after that it can be installed into place.
