What is Error 404?

So, what is "404" or "Not Found"? Such an inscription can be found instead of the number 404 or together with it, and it is translated literally as "not found". Error 404 occurs when the user tries to open a non-existent page of the site.

Why 404? This is the standard numeric code that is accepted in the HTTP protocol. It means that there is basically a connection to the server, but the data requested by the user was not found. For various errors in HTTP, different numeric designations are accepted - in addition to 404, often there are, for example, 403 errors (access is denied) and 503 Service Unavailable (the service is unavailable because the server can not process requests).

Error 404 is most often seen in the transitionon obsolete links found somewhere in the old forums. Also, a similar error can occur if you entered the address of the page in the address bar manually and become entangled in the symbols.

The default page with error 404 is simplyblack text on white background. However, serious resources usually create a special page for error 404 and often approach it in a creative way - they use drawings and funny inscriptions, add useful links. And the Russian social network "Odnoklassniki" at one time even conducted a charitable action together with WWF fund: on the page with error 404 they showed photos of rare animals and offered to make a donation for the protection of nature.
