How to make a column?
A beautifully executed column can serveA magnificent decoration for almost any classic interior. Some think that in order to install a column in the house, it will be necessary to call a team of craftsmen with special tools, which will be engaged in the manufacture and installation of the product, but it is quite possible to make such a column yourself. And we'll talk about how to make a column with our own hands. As a material for our column, we choose drywall, because it is strong enough and, moreover, it is easy to process.
How to make a column of plasterboard
Of course, the gypsum board will not beperform a carrier function, as can be done by columns made of natural and artificial stone or, for example, reinforced concrete. It is also possible to make such a column independently, but this is a very laborious process, requiring the master of special knowledge. However, we need the column, rather, as an ornament, for styling, and therefore the drywall will do the best. Before you make the base of the column, you need to determine and mark its location. To do this, we draw a circle of the required diameter on the ceiling, then take the plumb line and with its help we transfer this circle to the floor. Now we take gypsum plasterboard profiles and bend them in a circle. In order for this to happen, you need to cut off the wedges on the inside of the profile so that the drywall bends along the desired path. Then fix the profiles to the ceiling and to the floor with dowels, for which we pre-drill holes there with a drill. Vertical profiles are fixed to the horizontal and fixed in grooves. It is also useful here to use a plumb line to check the verticality of the structure. Deficiencies can not catch your eye immediately, but then become visible not only to you, but to all those present, so do not be too lazy to measure the plumb line after fixing this or that element of the base.
How to make a column - strengthening and finishing
In order for the column skeleton to be sufficientstrong, strengthen it in the middle with the help of a transverse profile. To do this, you need to bend the drywall. For flexing drywall there are two ways - dry and wet. We recommend the use of a dry method, since in the wet method it is not always possible to bend the drywall at the required angle. To perform a "dry" bend of drywall, make a wedge-shaped cut along one side of the sheet, but so that the lower layer of cardboard remains unaffected. If you want to curl the gypsum board, make more frequent and wide cuts, if the bend is not planned too sharp, the cuts should go smaller and less often. Well, now we have to fix the profile to the frame. To do this, wrap the profile around the frame and screw it with screws. The heads of screws need to be drowned in the profile. Now it remains to fill all the irregularities on the frame, and then the column can be processed, for example, with decorative plaster, paste wallpaper or even apply a special mosaic - it depends entirely on your taste. As an option: leave the gypsum base and make the top molding. After that, do not forget to cover the water-emulsion construction of the color in which you want to see your column. Well, now you know how to make a column of gypsum - the technology is quite simple and does not require any special skills and abilities.
